On June 3rd, 2016, Dr. Schmidt spoke at the Next Generation Suborbital Researchers Conference in Broomfield, Colorado. The talk was entitled “Personalized Medicine for Suborbital Pilots (and Ground Crew): What Elite Athletes can Teach us about Individualized Countermeasures for Space Flight.” The talk explored how suborbital pilots and ground crew can benefit from personalized assessment and countermeasures on a molecular scale and how molecular deficits in essential inputs and conditionally-essential inputs can spread across molecular networks causing deleterious phenotypic effects in physiology, morphology, and behavior.
