Dr. Michael Schmidt Receives Excellence & Innovation Award from the Aerospace Medical Association

Dr. Michael Schmidt of Sovaris Aerospace has been awarded the Marie Marvingt Award for Excellence and Innovation in Aerospace Medicine by the Aerospace Medical Association.

The award was originally established by the French Aerospace Medical Association in memory of Marie Marvingt (1875-1963), a French pilot, mountaineer, and surgical nurse who, for more than 50 years, involved herself in the conception and development of air ambulance services. During World War I, she became the first female combat pilot. In 1915, Marvingt became the first woman in the world to fly combat missions when she became a volunteer pilot flying bombing missions over German-held territory. She was also the first trained and certified flight nurse in the world.

Dr. Schmidt was also the 2019 winner of the Research and Development Innovation Award from the Life Sciences and Biomedical Engineering Branch of the Aerospace Medical Association.
